is not from outer space or Kansas. His favorite word is ham and he loves grilled squid. He lives in Miami with his imaginary lover, his Pomeranian Nico, and a family of raccoons that broke into his attic and moved in. In 2009, despite the raccoons, Neil's first poetry collection Almost Dorothy (Marsh Hawk Press, 2010) won the Marsh Hawk Press Poetry Prize. In one of the longest judge's notes ever written, Forrest Gander writes, “Almost Dorothy is the red-headed stepchild of Antony (without the Johnsons) and Jean Cocteau. Infusing poetry with theater, Neil de la Flor is at once bitingly original, funny, and uncompromising."
Neil also co-authored, with Maureen Seaton, the forthcoming poetry collection Sinead O’Connor and Her Coat of a Thousand Bluebirds (Firewheel Editions), winner of the 2010 Sentence Book Award. He also co-authored, with Maureen Seaton and Kristine Snodgrass, Facial Geometry (NeoPepper Press), a poetry chapbook of triads. His literary work, both solo and collaborative, has appeared in Hayden’s Ferry Review, Barrow Street, Dogzplot, 42opus, Sentence, Pank, Prairie Schooner, Indiana Review, Court Green and other fabulous journals. Neil teaches at Miami Dade College, Nova Southeastern University, and anywhere they’ll hire him. If you want to hire him, Neil may be reached at www.neildelaflor.com, via email or Facebook.
